Drugstore Cushion of my Dreams?

Hello Everyone! I hope everyone enjoyed their 4th of July celebrations! During one of Ulta’s 20% off sales I snagged a few items, one of them being the Maybelline Dream cushion. I was interested to see how it would stack up to the dozens of Korean cushion foundations I have tried before in the past. The Dream Matte Mousse foundation used to be my HG back in High School so I thought I would take a chance with this brand of cushion. This cushion ranges for about $8-$15 just depending on where you purchase it and you get 0.51oz/ 14.6g of product. I purchased mine here from Ulta and the price was $14.99. Let’s see how this stacked up.

I had a fun time trying to guess my shade online and I picked #40 True Beige, out of the 6 available shades, which to my surprise was pretty spot on and a little bit too dark which was fine because it is summer and I tan quite easily. The cushion itself is smaller in circumference by a few centimeters than my other cushions. You also get a tiny bit less product, my other cushions are at 15g of product where this one is 14.6g. The design is a quite boring to what I am used to with elegant designs or cute characters and the cushion isn’t removable from the case, I was bummed I couldn’t transfer to one of my prettier cases. This foundation is marketed as “Liquid Foundation On-The-Go” and claims to give luminous coverage to all skin types. The puff is very soft and just a standard ruby cell like puff and the sponge is VERY SATURATED with product. One press into the puff basically covers my whole face.

The word luminous scared me because I have oily acne prone skin and could see this turning my face into an oil slick fast. To my surprise it has a radiant semi-matte finish that is med coverage. My more pigmented acne scars had to be spot concealed as well as my dark circles. The finish is very nice and reminds me of the dream mousse finish but a thinner, less whipped consistency. The wear time on this was about 6 hours then I did have to reapply to only certain areas. It didn’t sweat off or break down in hot and humid weather for extended periods of time (the air at my work broke down). This foundation layers very beautifully over itself and doesn’t cake on me at all. I was very pleasantly surprised this foundation doesn’t accentuate or set into my expression lines on my forehead, but it settled into my smile lines at the end of the day which rarely happens with a foundation. I liked that it smoothed over a lot of the texture on my skin and exaggerate my pores. This foundation doesn’t irritate or break out my skin at all.

Final Thoughts: 3.9/5 The formula itself I enjoyed. The finish is nice and it wears well on the skin throughout my day. The wear time is pretty average, but when it breaks down on my skin I look more luminous and glowy than dewy or oily. They have a wider range of shades and are easily accessible. The finish I find similar to their other dream mousse products that are quite a bit cheaper (on Ulta’s site) and you do get more product with. I will repurchase this again when it runs out if I have a coupon.

Thank you so much for reading and please follow me to never miss a post!
