The Ordinary Coverage Foundation Review

Hello everyone! The ordinary seems to be a company that has seemed to pop up over night and captivate the beauty community over night. The website and products have a simple and streamline feel to them. They offer 2 foundations a serum and a coverage foundation along with many skincare items. The pricing is extraordinary and the items are so straight foreword no wonder they have a problem keeping items in stock. I purchased the Coverage Foundation, the High Adherence Silicon Primer, Matrixyl 10% +HA, and Caffeine Solution 5% +EGCG just to get a bit of a feel for the brand. Let’s see how the primer and the foundation preformed.

The Coverage Foundation in 1.2YG 30ml $6.90: This foundation claims to be a “full-coverage formulation available in a comprehensive shade range across 21 shades. These foundations contain higher pigment levels than our Serum Foundations but still offer a smooth finish that avoids the heavy makeup look that can make skin appear more aged. The texture is that of a lightweight, non-oily cream.” It also contains a SPF 15 that is achieved through physical protection of Titanium Dioxide. It is said to do best with the primer so I went ahead and purchased that and used it with it’s primer as well as my HG photo ready primer.

I was worried when I was choosing the shade that it was going to be too dark, as soon as I got an email that their foundations were back in stock the 3 that would have most matched my skin tone at the time were sold out. I purchased the 1.2 YG (yellow undertone with gold highlights) and the color is a tad bit too dark but will come in handy once I get a bit more sun, and I can correct it by setting with a light setting powder. The texture is very thin and watery. It blends very effortlessly and a little bit goes a long way. The formula doesn’t blur any pores or hide any imperfections. I enjoy that it doesn’t emphasize any of my large pores or settle into my fine/ expression lines. and it didn’t break out my skin It is a light-light medium coverage, it evens out my skin tone but it doesn’t cover my darker acne scars or my dark circles, and it has a semi matte finish. For the first hour or so this foundation makes my skin look fresh, but after that I turn into a MASSIVE OIL SLICK. I have to set this foundation with powder and even with powdering and a setting spray I still have to blot and reset my whole face a few hours in and then the foundation is more under control and a few areas get oily (nose and chin) and not my whole face. I thought maybe the primer was the culprit, but even with a change or primers I still get slick (not as drastic) in a few hours. The price is nice on this but if you have oily skin this foundation can turn ugly quickly.

High-Adherence Silicone Primer 30ml $4.90: This formula claims to “uses advanced adaptive silicones to act as a matte, hydrating, blurring primer for makeup that looks higher in definition and adheres for longer. The formula can also be used alone as a non-greasy hydrator that reduces the looks of pores and of imperfections.” It is a thick and creamy primer that spreads easily and has a very light scent that I think is a chemical/ sterile scent that gives me a head ache. The color is white and becomes clear when spread onto the skin. It is very light and does fill in some of my pores and does a tiny bit of blurring. My face does not like this primer and it makes my face over produce oil. It doesn’t matter what foundation I put over it my face becomes oily in 2-3 hours.

Ingredients: Aqua (Water), Isodecyl Neopentanoate, Dimethicone, Dimethicone/Bis-Isobutyl PPG-20 Crosspolymer, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Isohexadecane, Hexamethyldisiloxane, Isoceteth-20, Polysilicone-11, Tocopherol, Polysorbate 60, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin.

Final Thoughts: The foundation 2/5 I have to reset my whole face 2-3 hours into wear my skin gets so oily with it. I think this would be a good product if you have dry skin, but if you get oily at all this can turn into a mess very quickly. The primer 0/5 it makes my skin over produce oil and doesn’t work well with even my driest foundation my face always ended up overly oily. I’m gong to give it to a friend and see if they have a better go with it. I’m still testing out the serums but so far they are very promising.

Thank you so much for reading and please follow me to never miss a post!

    1. I was hoping it would be a super inexpensive HG but I guess it’s not too bad of a loss for the price. Have you tried any of their sincere items?
